A brighter shade of Gray

Dave Jones. A name that will make a lot of Sheffield Wednesday fans shudder. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager came to Hillsborough following the sacking of Gary Megson and the beating of United in the Steel City Derby, then steered the Owls to promotion from League One to the Championship.

The Season Review: #SWFC

Stuart Gray, turned SWFC's fortunes around.
Given the start of the season, Sheffield Wednesday fans had the privilege of feeling safe weeks before the season ended rather than going through the roller-coaster of emotions on the final day of the season. Other South Yorkshire teams were less fortunate than Wednesday and the close of the season saw Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers relegated to League One in agonising style. Finishing with 53 points and nine points above the relegation zone, Sheffield Wednesday finished 16th in the league with 13 wins, 14 draws and 19 defeats and a goal difference of -2 with 63 goals for and 65 against.

Whats In A Loan?

Sky Sports Transfer Deadline Day.
With the slamming shut of Sky Sports' over-hyped Transfer Deadline Day and with the overly-excited Jim White now reduced to a mere sports news presenter again, clubs that hadn't splashed the cash on permanent signings faced backlash on social media from disgruntled fans. Fans which were annoyed at the thought of having to sign players in the emergency loan window and not securing those players' signatures on a permanent contract, made their feelings known on platforms such as twitter and Facebook. #SWFC Half-Time Report

With the Boxing Day fixtures now behind us we are half-way through the 2013/14 season and with Sheffield Wednesday still languishing in the relegation zone, the second half to the season needs to be a vast improvement on the first half. Ending 2013 two points adrift of safety and 21st placed Doncaster Rovers, manager-less, over reliant on loan signings and an owner reluctant to open the chequebook - it seems that Wednesday will be glad to see the back of the year and start afresh in the new year.

SkyBet Championship: Derby County

Pride Park, Derby County.

Sheffield Wednesday come to Derby on the back of a 5-2 thumping of Reading in their last outing whilst the hosts look to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to QPR. The Owls maintain the line-up that performed so well last time out with the loanee strike force of Connor Wickham and Matty Fryatt leading the line.
