The Season Review: #SWFC

Stuart Gray, turned SWFC's fortunes around.
Given the start of the season, Sheffield Wednesday fans had the privilege of feeling safe weeks before the season ended rather than going through the roller-coaster of emotions on the final day of the season. Other South Yorkshire teams were less fortunate than Wednesday and the close of the season saw Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers relegated to League One in agonising style. Finishing with 53 points and nine points above the relegation zone, Sheffield Wednesday finished 16th in the league with 13 wins, 14 draws and 19 defeats and a goal difference of -2 with 63 goals for and 65 against.

SkyBet Championship: Birmingham City

St. Andrews, Birmingham City.
Ground: St. Andrews, Birmingham
Attendance: 14,379

With the season in full flow now both of these teams would be expecting more points on the board than what they start today with. To call it a 'six-pointer' so early is unwarranted but with poor performances in their previous outings, both City and Wednesday will be desperate to start accumulating points and climb up the table sooner rather than later. Manager Lee Clarke signed Manchester United and England U21 sattacking midfielder Jesse Lingard in the build up to the game and he goes straight into the starting lineup to make his debut. The Owls also have added to the books with signings of Roger Johnson (on loan from Wolves) and Stephen McPhail (free agent).

nPower Championship: Birmingham City

With the battle to beat the drop hotting up, every passing week more teams are being dragged into the danger zone and this would be a huge 3 points for either side as Sheffield Wednesday visit Birmingham City. The last time the Owls were away they produced a 1-2 win over Charlton Athletic whilst the last time Birmingham played at St. Andrews, they collapsed to a 0-4 loss to Watford.

nPower Championship: Birmingham City

Well there's only one place to start today isn't there - a certain Barcelona B player, Rodri, signing for the Owls on a season long loan, with the a purchase option at the end. Yes, you read that correctly. Read it again! Oh how things change, Dave Jones really does have global connections.

Now, to the game.

Birmingham City come to Hillsborough for the Owls first home game of the Championship season. Pre - match I was happy if we were to end the 90mins with a point, as the visiting Blues have a Premiership pedigree and a strong side that will undoubtedly do well this season.
